Golf

Yes, it may borderline on an addiction, but I like to think of it as an “acceptable” one. (Feel free to rebuke me, if you must) My lowest handicap was 6 (was 12 in 2008; up to 9 now) so I still have much work to do to get my scores down in the mid-70′s. But, as I like to remind myself each time I hit the links, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Again, rebuke…)
I try to get out 1-2 times a month to play and thankfully San Antonio has a lot of reasonably priced courses (some as low as $10-$15 to walk 18). Otherwise, being in full time ministry, there would be no way I could play! By the way, if the Lord leads you to give a gift to me directly, golf paraphernalia would always be appreciated. Ok, Ok. I’ll stop already.

Travel

I love to travel and see new places, especially historic locations. I like to visit nature (notice I didn’t say “camp” in nature). I also like touring hotels and other landmarks in large cities just to admire the architecture and views. Another favorite thing to do when traveling is to sample local cuisine. No chain restaurants! I like finding the local hole-in-the-wall joints that you can only find by asking someone who lives there where the really good food is.

Movies & TV

We sometimes go for long periods with no television service in our house. Yes, it is still possible to exist without cable or satellite service. You do have to get used to people under 25 years old looking at you like you’re from another planet, but that’s OK. We do have an Amazon Prime account, though, which allows us to control what entertainment comes into our home. This is fun because there are a LOT of really good movies and even old TV shows that we rent for fun.
We have watched lots of “oldies but goodies.” One such TV series was Columbo. It was good old-fashioned clean fun. Plus, I just loved Peter Falk in that role, always lifting that hand with one finger up as he was walking out of the room, “Oh, just one more question…” We have also watched Magnum P.I., which was more from our era of growing up. (Did we really used to wear those shorts?!) Other favorites include The Cosby Show, Coach, The Office, Dick Van Dyke and The A-Team (“I love it when a plan comes together”).
